The Medical and Dental College Admission Test MDCAT is a gateway for students in Pakistan to pursue their career in field of medicine. But, despite of rigorous preparation of months and even years, many students fail to crack it. The reasons are poor preparations, difficult level of test, or something else?
MBBS, Dream of many but destination of few, due to many reasons. Is it their mistake or of institutions? The answer to this is that students are not well prepared by institutions. According to me, at F.Sc level where the origin of preparation must be start, institutions run cram based education for only making students to pass their F.Sc education .They do not focus on clearing the concepts of students that is the top most priority for clearing test. As a result they failed to crack the test.
Is the test difficult or they aren’t well prepared? Well, they are somehow prepared but the institution that make test sometimes do not follow the reserved syllabus given by PMDC and make test without looking forward at which question is not relevant to syllabus. Therefore, students failed to attempt that question correctly.
Are the seats less or more students or what? Every year millions of MDCAT aspirants appear in exams and few of them are selected. There is a huge difference between the ratio of students appeared and selected in medical college. Despite of a lot of medical colleges there are very limited seats for every province in order to allow private medical colleges to sustain their businesses. Therefore, many students who are obsessed with MBBS had to take admission in private colleges.
Is leakage or sales of exam paper before competitive test destroying meritocracy? The leakage of test or its sale before exam is raising questions about the fairness of system. Instead of giving reward and appreciation to hardworking and deserving students, this unethical practice of leaking testy and test sale allow financially strong people who can afford to buy success to secure high grades, leaving talented students behind. Institutions responsible for conducting MDCAT fail to maintain equality and integrity, as corruption, bribery and nepotism make it easy for certain individuals to gain access to question paper before conduction of test.
MDCAT is supposed to be conducted fairly to choose future doctors but issues like test leakage, paper sales, limited seats, mistakes by institutions made it unfair for many students. These problems demotivate hardworking and talented students and led them to stress and disappointment.
Strict actions should be taken to stop corruption and to improve test security along with to increase number of seats so that maximum students achieve their goal. Without these changes, MDCAT will always feel like a game of luck not of hard work and talent.
